Mia Derrico - Multi-Sport Athlete

Mia Derrico, Class of 2026, is a talented multi-sport athlete at Old Tappan High School in New Jersey. Mia brings the same competitive drive and athleticism to the soccer field that she shows in basketball and lacrosse.  Consistent and dynamic, Derrico is a difference-maker every time she steps on the field or the court.

Lacrosse:

Mia Derrico is a dynamic midfielder and attacker for the Old Tappan High School girls lacrosse team, known for her scoring ability, tenacity, and all-around impact on the field. After a breakout sophomore season with 43 goals and 13 assists, she is looking to have an outstanding 2025 season. Mia’s combination of offensive firepower and defensive hustle makes her a key playmaker and leader for Old Tappan Girls Lacrosse. Mia will continue with her love for lacrosse as she has committed to Sacred Heart University after graduation. 

Basketball:

​Mia Derrico is a guard for the Old Tappan High School girls basketball team, recognized for her consistent scoring and leadership on the court. Wearing jersey number 22, she has steadily emerged as a key offensive contributor for her squad. In the 2024-2025 season, she contributed significantly averaging 7.7 points per game over 27 games. Her efforts earned her First Team All-Bergen County honors and a spot on the National Division First Team. 

Over the past few years playing for Old Tappan, Mia has expanded her game with reliable shooting from inside and beyond the arc, demonstrating marked improvement in her scoring efficiency and overall impact on the court as she continues to develop into a well-rounded playmaker for the Golden Knights. Mia's dedication and performance have made her a key player for Old Tappan Girls Basketball.

Soccer:

Mia Derrico is an all-around great soccer player for Old Tappan, showcasing her versatility and impact during the 2024–2025 season. As a junior, she contributed three goals and two assists, helping power her team to key wins throughout the year. She scored in back-to-back shutouts against Demarest and Indian Hills and delivered clutch assists in victories over Demarest and Tenafly. Whether finishing plays or creating opportunities,

Old Tappan stayed unbeaten with a 4-3 overtime win over Ridgewood on Thursday afternoon. Elena Pothos opened the scoring for the Golden Knights, but Ridgewood answered with two goals from Lilli Granert to take a 2-1 lead after the first period. Pothos struck again in the second to tie it, and Taylor Chisholm followed with a go-ahead goal before Gabriella Winn knotted the game at 3-3 heading into the third. Neither team scored in regulation, setting up overtime. Caroline Ognibene delivered the game-winner off an assist from Nina Caunedo to secure the win for Old Tappan. Pothos finished with two goals, while Ognibene and Chisholm added one each. Goalie Lea Savino recorded eight saves. For Ridgewood, Granert led the way with two goals and Winn added one. Goalie Emily Grathwohl had two saves. Old Tappan improved to 3-0, while Ridgewood fell to 2-2.

Old Tappan Improves to 2-0 With Dominant Performance

Old Tappan dominates Indian Hills with 8–0 win Old Tappan improved to 2-0 with a commanding 8–0 victory over Indian Hills on Monday afternoon. Elena Pothos led the way with a hat trick and an assist, factoring into four of the Golden Knights’ goals. Caroline Ognibene scored twice, while Sienna Drullinsky, Mia Derrico, and Leah Ramos each added one goal. Assists came from Isabella Zingarelli (2), Drullinsky, Mia Colon, Nina Caunedo, and Pothos. Old Tappan put the game out of reach early, building a 4–0 halftime lead behind Pothos’ finishing and steady ball movement. The Knights outshot Indian Hills and kept pressure on throughout the match. Goalie Lea Savino recorded five saves to secure the shutout. With balanced scoring and stingy defense, Old Tappan looks poised for another strong season.
