Old Tappan defeat Pompton Lakes - Girls lacrosse recap

Annabelle Lee scored six goals as Old Tappan won its first road game of the 2025 season, getting past Pompton Lakes 15-3.

Old Tappan (3-0) jumped out to an 11-2 lead at the end of the first half. This was enough for the win as Pompton Lakes (0-3) would score once in the second half.

Charlotte Malady and Mia Derrico led all players with seven points. Mia Derrico had four goals and two assists for Old Tappan, while Layla Dyer controlled a game-high five ground balls.

Emily Koppel, Olivia LaForgia, and Gabriella Solis all scored for Pompton Lakes. As a team, it recorded 10 shots on goal and controlled 15 ground balls.

This marks Old Tappan’s first 3-0 start since 2014, when the team started 6-0.

Senior Night carried extra weight inside the gym as the Old Tappan Golden Knights honored Mia Derrico, Nina Caunedo, Sienna Drullinsky, and Sadie Murphy before their 59 to 44 win over the River Dell Golden Hawks. The most powerful moment came seconds after tipoff. Mia Derrico was sidelined for the season with a knee injury. She had not played a game all season. On Senior Night, she returned to the starting lineup. The opening tip was directed to her. She caught the ball, drove straight to the basket, and finished with a layup. Those two points were her first and only basket of the season. The crowd erupted. Teammates swarmed her. The moment set the tone for the night. From there, Old Tappan handled business. The first quarter ended tied at 16. The Knights led 25 to 24 at halftime. They created separation in the third quarter, outscoring River Dell 16 to 9. An 18 point fourth quarter closed the door. Drullinsky led all scorers with 30 points, dominating with her jump shot and converting six free throws. Nina Caunedo added 10 points with two three pointers. Sadie Murphy knocked down two shots from beyond the arc for six points. Alexa Caunedo scored eight. Alivia Badurina added a three. Mauimi Quiros, Madison Plescia, Farrah Ibrahim, Katie Degennaro, and Joley Giordano all saw action and contributed with defense, movement, and energy that helped control the pace. Old Tappan improved to 17 and 6. Senior Night delivered emotion, resilience, and a moment Mia Derrico will carry long after the final buzzer.

Old Tappan edges Ridgewood in overtime thriller

Old Tappan stayed unbeaten with a 4-3 overtime win over Ridgewood on Thursday afternoon. Elena Pothos opened the scoring for the Golden Knights, but Ridgewood answered with two goals from Lilli Granert to take a 2-1 lead after the first period. Pothos struck again in the second to tie it, and Taylor Chisholm followed with a go-ahead goal before Gabriella Winn knotted the game at 3-3 heading into the third. Neither team scored in regulation, setting up overtime. Caroline Ognibene delivered the game-winner off an assist from Nina Caunedo to secure the win for Old Tappan. Pothos finished with two goals, while Ognibene and Chisholm added one each. Goalie Lea Savino recorded eight saves. For Ridgewood, Granert led the way with two goals and Winn added one. Goalie Emily Grathwohl had two saves. Old Tappan improved to 3-0, while Ridgewood fell to 2-2.

Old Tappan dominates Indian Hills with 8–0 win Old Tappan improved to 2-0 with a commanding 8–0 victory over Indian Hills on Monday afternoon. Elena Pothos led the way with a hat trick and an assist, factoring into four of the Golden Knights’ goals. Caroline Ognibene scored twice, while Sienna Drullinsky, Mia Derrico, and Leah Ramos each added one goal. Assists came from Isabella Zingarelli (2), Drullinsky, Mia Colon, Nina Caunedo, and Pothos. Old Tappan put the game out of reach early, building a 4–0 halftime lead behind Pothos’ finishing and steady ball movement. The Knights outshot Indian Hills and kept pressure on throughout the match. Goalie Lea Savino recorded five saves to secure the shutout. With balanced scoring and stingy defense, Old Tappan looks poised for another strong season.
