Biography:
Maya Giordano: A Multi-Sport Athlete
Maya Giordano is a distinguished multi-sport athlete from Northern Valley Regional High School in Old Tappan, New Jersey. Excelling in volleyball, basketball, and track and field. Earning 12 Varsity letters during her time at NVOT. Her dedication, skill, and perseverance have made her a standout athlete in all three sports.
Volleyball Career
As an outside hitter/opposite (OH, OP) wearing jersey number 24, Maya showcased consistent growth throughout her high school volleyball tenure. Her season statistics are as follows:
2020-2021: 10 kills.
2021-2022: 67 kills, 7 blocks, 16 digs, and 2 assists.
2022-2023: 108 kills, 9 blocks, 25 digs, and 1 assist.
2023-2024: 202 kills, 11 blocks, 39 digs, and 3 assists.
Over her four-year career, Maya accumulated impressive totals: 378 kills, 27 blocks, 80 digs, and 6 assists. Winning a State Sectional title as a sophomore. Maya was voted as the top girls volleyball senior in New Jersey in 2024.
Basketball Career
On the basketball court, Maya donned jersey number 45 and played as a forward. Her season statistics include:
2020-2021: 14 points over 8 games. Covid-19 shortened season
2021-2022: 307 points, 209 rebounds, 8 assists, 8 blocks, and 17 steals across 26 games.
2022-2023: 285 points, 190 rebounds, 25 assists, 9 blocks, and 28 steals over 27 games.
2023-2024: 244 points, 215 rebounds, 1 assist, 18 block, and 4 steals in 26 games.
Cumulatively, Maya achieved 850 points, 614 rebounds, 34 assists, 35 blocks, and 49 steals during her basketball career at Old Tappan. Maya was voted as the top girls basketball sophomore in New Jersey in 2022. She would have her name in the rafters as a 1000 point scorer if it wasn't for a shortened season in 2020 due to school closures for Covid-19. The team only played 8 games that season.
Track and Field Career
Maya is also a talented track and field athlete specializing in throwing events. During her time at Northern Valley Old Tappan High School, Maya excelled in multiple throwing disciplines:
Shot Put: Achieved a personal best of 40 feet 10 inches in 2024, ranking second in the school's records.
Discus: Recorded a top throw of 116 feet 8 inches.
Javelin: Achieved a personal best of 98 feet 9 inches.
Her outstanding performances earned her First Team All-Bergen County honors in the shot put. She was also a key contributor to her team's success, being part of three sectional championship teams and a Group 3 championship team during her sophomore year.
Maya's dedication and achievements in volleyball, basketball, and track and field have established her as a promising athlete in collegiate athletics and an athlete that won't be forgotten at Northern Valley Old Tappan High School. She will continue her athletic and academic career as a thrower for the University of Delaware.
