Old Tappan delivered a dominant performance in the Bergen County Tournament semifinals, sweeping Tenafly 25-16, 25-22, 25-22 to improve to 15-4 on the season and secure a spot in the county championship match.
The Knights controlled the match from the start, using crisp passing, strong serving, and a balanced attack to keep Tenafly on its heels. Senior captain Julia Whaley led the offense with 11 kills and 8 digs, setting the tone with her consistency and power on the outside. Setter Joley Giordano was exceptional, distributing the ball with precision for 27 assists, while adding 7 digs, 4 blocks, and 2 kills to anchor the team’s rhythm.
Eva Curko continued her breakout postseason with 6 kills, 4 blocks, 3 assists, and 3 aces, establishing control at the net. Bianca Benasillo contributed 9 kills and solid defense, while Gabriela Paltag added 6 kills and 2 blocks, giving Old Tappan multiple offensive options.
In the backcourt, Adriana Bryan was sharp as always, recording 12 digs and stabilizing serve receive throughout all three sets. Nadine Whaley provided an extra spark at the net with 3 kills and 3 blocks, and Desi Malafis chipped in 4 digs, helping the Knights maintain defensive pressure. Kate Finn added 2 digs, showing strong court awareness in key rotations.
Old Tappan’s depth and chemistry were on full display, with every rotation contributing to the win. The Knights stayed composed through every rally and closed out each set with precision. With the victory, Old Tappan advances to the Bergen County Final on Saturday, November 1, at 2:00 p.m., where they will face Immaculate Heart Academy (18-3) in a rematch of last year’s championship. The Knights will look to defend their county title and solidify their status as one of New Jersey’s top programs.
