Old Tappan Stays Perfect With Sweep of Morristown
Old Tappan starts the 2025 volleyball season with a straight-set win over Morristown on Friday evening, taking the match 25-13, 25-21.
The Golden Knights controlled the first set with strong hitting from Julia Whaley, who led the team with 7 kills and added 8 digs. Alexa Caunedo chipped in 6 kills, while Gabriela Paltag added 3 kills and 2 blocks. On defense, Desi Malafis posted a team-high 9 digs, and Nadine Whaley contributed 2 blocks at the net.
Setter Joley Giordano directed the offense with 13 assists and added 5 digs and 1 ace. The Knights were also sharp at the service line, with Malafis, Maya Fernandez, and Kate Finn combining for 7 of the team’s 8 aces.
Morristown (1-4) battled in the second set, led by Nawel Ibazatene Lefebvre (4 kills), Vivian Kim (7 digs, 2 aces), and Dajla Mancelli (10 digs). Despite a late push, the Colonials fell short against Old Tappan’s balanced attack and steady defense.
With the win, Old Tappan remains unbeaten since 2024, while Morristown looks to regroup heading into its next matchup.
